(Wisconsin Radio Network) Legislation to improve parking structure safety in Wisconsin.
According to the Wisconsin Radio Network, a bipartisan bill introduced by Milwaukee Democratic State Representative Darrin Madison would increase the number of inspections for parking structures to that of bridges -every two to four years.
Privately owned parking garages are now inspected a minimum of every five years. Parking garage owners would face fines for noncompliance. The bill has not yet received a public hearing.
A teen died when a concrete slab fell from a Milwaukee county parking garage in 2010. In 2023 a parking structure at Glendale’s Bayshore Mall partially collapsed.
