Sex Offender to be Released to 201 W. Depot St. in the City of Marshfield

Thursday, March 6th, 2025 -- 1:01 PM

On June 1st of 1997, Wisconsin State Statute §301.45 - the Sex Offender Registration and Community Notification Law came into effect.

Prior to this legislation, individuals similar to the one listed in this bulletin, were being released into communities with only law enforcement agencies being notified.

Based on this new law, the Marshfield Police Department, along with the Department of Corrections and in conjunction with the Wood County Sex Offender Classification Review Team, is authorized to provide the following information to select areas of the community.

Based on this law, neighbors, schools, and businesses in the vicinity of the residence of this offender are being notified via this bulletin. On March 25 Clay Preston will be released and residing at 201 W. Depot St. in the City of Marshfield.

Preston was convicted of 3rd Degree Sexual Assault; Causing Mental Harm To a Child in Wood County in 2021. Preston has been designated as a Level 3 Sex Offender.

This is the highest classification of notification level in so far as a potential threat or danger to the community at large. He is a lifetime registered sex offender and has a lifetime GPS monitor, which is in place.

Please note: State law forbids the harassment of released Sex Offenders. Please understand that the Department of Corrections and the Marshfield Police Department wants to create a safe community, but we also understand the reality that people are released from prison and must be incorporated back into the community.

Thank you for your anticipated understanding in this matter. If you have questions about this bulletin or the situation in your community, please contact the Division of Community Corrections - Department of Probation and Parole at phone (715) 384-8832 or (715) 422-5077.
