Former Assumption High School Coach Sentenced for Capturing Nude Images of Students

Tuesday, March 4th, 2025 -- 2:00 PM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A former coach at Assumption High School in Wisconsin Rapids has been given a withheld prison sentence and jail time for capturing naked images of students through a hidden camera in his home’s bathroom.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Seth Milkey will serve one year in the Wood County Jail for one count of capturing an intimate representation. The sentence includes Huber or work release privileges after six months.

Judge Timothy Gebert also imposed and stayed a 54-month prison sentence on the 34-year-old with five years of probation. That means as long as he does not violate the terms of his probation, he will not serve the prison time.

Terms include paying over $2,500 in court costs, completing treatment and counseling, and submitting a DNA sample. He’s also been ordered to have no contact with the victims and cannot possess a camera or video recording equipment without approval.

Charges stem from images of students found on Milkey’s laptop last spring. When he was confronted with them, he became defensive and allegedly threatened to kill himself.

Officers arrived at his home for a welfare check and discovered the images of at least 10 students on an external hard drive. Investigators learned the images were taken by a hidden camera set up in a bathroom at Milkey’s home.

The Catholic Diocese of La Crosse released a statement shortly after the charges came to light, saying they have cooperated with the investigation. They added that Milkey passed all of their background checks “before and during” his time as a coach with the school.

The statement added that having students visit him at his home for counseling was a “clear and troubling violation of diocesan and school policy.” He had faced up to 17.5 years in prison after pleading guilty to five of the ten counts against him back in December.

Milkey will also be required to register as a sex offender for the next 15 years.
