OFFICIALS WARN OF PHONE SCAM

An area woman fell pray to a phone scam that local officials want you to be aware.A town of Reseburg woman is out $4,590.00 after a caller claiming to be her grandson pleaded for her to send him a large sum of money. He claimed to have been injured in a car accident in Canada. And said Canada would not release him or his friend unless she wired the money to him.
The caller used the real name of the woman's grandson and claimed he sounded different because his nose was broken.
The Sheriff?s Department advises to be cautious if you are contacted by phone or e-mail and are asked to mail or wire large sums of money, or are asked to give out personal information.
The investigation continues and reports will be sent to Canadian authorities for follow-up on the case.
