Neillsville City Council Approves Asphalt Bids and More at Tuesday Meeting

The Neillsville City Council approved the asphalt bids at their meeting on Tuesday.
City Clerk Rex Roehl also reported on receiving an $850 grant from the Clark County Community Foundation, Inc. for the Beautification Committee – Prock Park project, which the Council approved and accepted.
Mayor Poeschel then declared the Public Hearing in the matter of State and Federal Aid for the Improvements at the Neillsville Municipal Airport, N3770 Miller Avenue, Neillsville, WI – Resolution Petitioning the Secretary of Transportation for Airport Improvement Aid open.
Director of Public Works Luke Friemoth stated that public notice of this public hearing was in the Clark County Press of February 5th, 2025, the first reading of this resolution was done at the January 28, 2025 Common Council meeting and the Airport Commission recommended approval at its January 15, 2025 meeting. Director of Public Works Friemoth proceeded with the second reading of the resolution.
Mayor Dewey Poeschel called for appearances. Jeff Gaier, Airport Manager, appeared in support of adopting the Resolution. The airport's current snow removal equipment is over ten years old and the State says it is eligible for replacement. There were no further appearances, so the hearing was closed. The Council then approved the resolution.
Police Sergeant Hunter Imm reported on trainings, squad car maintenance, January parking enforcements, citations, warnings, office activity, calls for service, officer activities, business patrols and Town of Mentor contract policing.
City Clerk Roehl reported that the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, Equalization Bureau, State and Local Finance Division, has issued its Final Major Class Comparison for 2024. It shows that 2024 was the third year of non-compliance assessment for the City.
City Clerk Roehl presented a letter from Crime Stoppers of Clark County WI, Inc. requesting a donation. A resident also stated that other towns put their Council meeting packet on their websites.
The Council also heard the various Committee Reports from the past couple weeks. Council Member Clarissa Rochester reported on the February 13, 2025 meeting of the Heritage Days Committee regarding:
- Discussion on the Truck Show,
- Discussion on activities and games for children,
- Discussion on sponsorships,
- Discussion on the parade and road closings,
- Discussion on the volleyball tournament,
- Booked the tent,
- Discussion on portable toilets,
- Hired Home Grown Tomatoes for the Sunday band,
- And approved Central Wisconsin Broadcasting, Inc. as the 2025 Grand Marshal.
Council Member Dan Clough reported on the February 19, 2025 meeting of the Historic Preservation Committee regarding:
- Discussion on the 1897 Clark County Jail building,
- Discussion on the National Park Service Paul Bruhn grant application,
- Discussion on new Murals project,
- And discussion on local contractors list, updating forms and website, tax credit links and self-guided Cemetery tour.
Council Member Dan Clough reported on the February 25, 2025 meeting of the Commission on Public Works/Utilities regarding:
- Current activities,
- Discussion on and recommendation to advertise for asphalt bids,
- And payment of bills.
