SQUASH SEMINAR PLANNED

Thursday, September 18th, 2008 -- 12:20 PM

Harvest season is in full swing.

The Clark County Master Gardeners, Master Food Preservers, Nutrition Coalition and UW-Extension will hold a seminar on squash and pumpkins tonight (Thursday) at the Greenwood ADS Building at 7:00 p.m.

"The master food preservers will talk a little bit about how to preserve squash and pumpkins, the master gardeners are going to talk about how to grow squash and pumpkins and we talk about the nutritional value," explains Tammy Yaeger, clinical dietician with the Clark County Health Care Center, "We give out some samples to taste and recipes to take home."

Everyone knows vegetables and fruits are good for you. Squash and pumpkins are especially good. Yaeger says they contain a lot of Vitamin A and antioxidants.

"Antioxidants help prevent cancer and cardivascular disease. Getting 5 to 7 (servings) of fruits and vegetables can really help in the prevention of those diseases," she says.
