Antigo Man Sentenced for Fleeing an Officer

Monday, February 24th, 2025 -- 1:01 PM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) An Antigo man was sentenced to three years in prison for charges related to fleeing an officer and recklessly endangering safety.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Cody Mayotte was found guilty of leading police on a high-speed chase that started in Kronenwetter and went up Business 51, ending in a crash along Grand Avenue in Wausau.

Officers had attempted to pull Mayotte over after realizing he had an outstanding warrant. The 23-year-old then sped off into the Mountain Bay Metro PD jurisdiction, where officers deployed spike strips to slow him down.

Those were unsuccessful and the chase continued into Wausau where he crashed near the Police Station. Two officers were injured in the incident. Mayotte will also spend five years on extended supervision following his prison sentence.

He will also pay more than $7,500 in fines and restitution. The sentence was part of a deal that saw Mayotte plead no contest to three counts for fleeing an officer, second-degree recklessly endangering safety, and OWI causing injury.

In exchange, charges for possession of THC with the intent to distribute, harboring or aiding a felon, and possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed but read into the record.
