Wood County Sheriff’s Department Warns of Medicare Scams Hitting the Area

The Wood County Sheriff’s Department has received calls in regards to scammers pretending to be from medical facilities or from the Medicare office asking for Medicare numbers.

If you find yourself in a situation where you gave your number to these scammers, immediately contact the Medicare fraud department 1-800-633-4227 to file a complaint. They will monitor your account for fraudulent activity.

Government agencies will not contact you by phone for your personal information such as medicare numbers and will not ask for money.
