(Mike Leischner, WSAU) The Marathon County Health Department has released the results of the latest round of alcohol compliance checks, according to Mike Leischner with WSAU.
According to a press release from the Health Department, 79 licensed establishments were recently checked. Of those, 62 refused to sell to the minor. There are 395 licensed establishments in Marathon County including bars, restaurants, gas stations, liquor stores, and grocery stores.
Compliance checks, sometimes called stings, involve sending a young adult aged 18-20 into a licensed establishment under the guidance of law enforcement.
The young adult attempts to purchase alcohol with cash and must show their ID if asked by the clerk. If they are turned down, the establishment passes. If not, the officers return the alcohol to the store and issue a citation.
