On February 13, 2025 at approximately 2:53 p.m. the Clark County Sheriff's Department received a call from staff at the elementary school indicating a student may have an explosive device in a backpack.

The school was put on lockdown, and arrangements were made to evacuate students and staff from the building. Law enforcement arrived on scene to secure the building and an initial search of the building was performed.

No suspicious devices were located. Marathon County Bomb Squad was contacted, and a search of the suspected device/backpack was performed. It was determined the suspected device was not a threat and found to be a toy.

The building remained on lockdown overnight. On February 14, 2025 a K-9 unit from the Wood County Sheriffs’ Department also performed a sweep of the school for explosive devices.

This search produced no further concern in the building. The school was reopened as of 7:00 am. There is no threat to the public. The Greenwood Police Department would like to thank students, family, and school staff for their assistance and understanding with this incident.

The safety and security of our students and staff is of utmost importance. Additionally, the Greenwood Police Department would like to thank their partners in law enforcement for the assistance provided during this incident:
