Tuesday, February 11th, 2025 -- 12:00 PM

Twenty Thorp FCCLA students from both middle and high school recently competed in their regional STAR competition.
STAR stands for Students Taking Action with Recognition. Students are able to compete in a variety of subjects related to the Family and Consumer Sciences field, including baking, food science, consumer goods, design, and more.
Students who score between 1 and 69 points earn a bronze medal, 70 and 89 points earn a silver medal, and 90-100 points earn a gold medal. If students earn 80 points or higher, they qualify to move onto the state level.
The state competition will take place in April in Wisconsin Dells. Danika Gustafson, Adalynn Foster, and Emma Married completed in Repurpose and Redesign. Focusing on conversation, this project takes objects that might otherwise be thought of as trash and turns them into something new.
Danika, Adalynn, and Emma use an old pallet and used water bottles to create an outdoor planter. For their efforts they received a gold rating and will be advancing to state.
