One of Three Men Accused of Reckless Homicide Enters Plea

Monday, February 10th, 2025 -- 12:00 PM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) One of the Wausau-area men accused of beating a 71-year-old Stevens Point man who died from his injuries has pleaded no contest to a reduced charge.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Brandon Boehm pled no contest to second-degree reckless homicide on Friday. Investigators say the 21-year-old was one of three men who beat Donald Mitchell Jr after they were caught rummaging through his vehicle, looking to steal items of value.

Mitchell confronted the group before they turned on him, severely beating him and leaving him in the downtown parking lot. He was rushed to a Stevens Point hospital and then taken to Wausau, where he died the next day. Doctors said he had multiple fractured ribs and nearly every bone in his face was broken.

Boehm has previously pleaded not guilty to a count of first-degree homicide in the case, which could have landed him up to 46 years in prison due to Mitchell’s age. He now faces up to 31 years at sentencing on April 11th. A count of theft of movable property against Boehm has been dismissed.

Two additional men faced charges in the incident. Christian Emerson is due to be sentenced on February 28th after pleading no contest to reckless homicide in early January.

Arlin Sangster is serving a 20-year prison sentence after he was found guilty of reckless homicide and theft of movable property at trial in August. A fourth individual was initially suspected but was cleared of any wrongdoing.
