NEILLSVILLE REFERENDUM PASSES
Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 -- 11:19 PM
Neillsville Public Schools have City of Neillsville residents to thank for passing a referendum yesterday. The question asked for permission to exceed the state-imposed revenue cap by $300,000 for five years.
The final tally was 557 to 481, or 54% to 46%.
Its approval means the district will be able to levy an extra $300,000 next year. The state will pick up a portion of that amount the next four years.
A majority of residents outside the city limits of Neillsville actually voted against it. The vote in the towns was 278 for to 352 against.
But residents in the city limits carried the day voting 279 to 129 in favor?a margin of 150 votes.
