NEILLSVILLE SOLDIERS AMONG THOSE ACTIVATED

Monday, September 8th, 2008 -- 3:13 PM

A Neillsville-based battalion will be among the 3,500 Wisconsin National Guard soldiers activated for a mission in Iraq.

The activation of the 32nd Brigade Combat Team and six other units represents the largest operational deployment of the Wisconsin National Guard since World War II.

The soldiers were told last December that this was possible. They were notified of the activation over the weekend.

According to a press release, the units will report to their local armories in mid-February, train for two months in Texas and then deploy to the Middle East where they will spend 10-months of their year-long deployment in Iraq.

The 32 Brigade includes units in Neillsville, Abbotsford, Eau Claire, Arcadia, Marshfield and Wisconsin Rapids. The 1158th Transportation Company from Black River Falls is among the six other units being deployed.
