The Black River Falls School District is addressing some rumors regarding the District.

Dr. Shelly Severson, Superintendent of the Black River Falls School District provided the following statement: “I was just made aware of a rumor that states that the SDBRF was asking individuals, specifically Native American students, to bring a copy of their birth certificate to school."

"There have also been claims that immigration officials were present at neighboring school districts. Both of these rumors are false. We understand that immigration-related issues can cause fear and uncertainty, especially given recent national developments."

"We want to reassure you of our commitment to the safety and education of all students. Today, our school social worker did reach out to some of our homeless families to ask them if they needed assistance in getting a copy of their child’s birth certificate; her sole purpose was to provide support to the family."

"The only time we ask to see a birth certificate is during a student’s initial registration with the District; we do not keep a copy of the birth certificate on file."

"Legal Protections: Every student has the right to a free public education regardless of immigration status. We are not required to collect or share information about a student’s immigration status.”

“School Safety: Schools remain safe spaces for learning, growth, and support. We are here to provide a welcoming environment for every student. We prioritize creating a safe and welcoming environment where every student can thrive."\

"Our staff is trained to support students who may experience fear or stress. If you have concerns or questions, please reach out to your school principal or the district office."

"Additional resources and information about your rights are available through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and local organizations. Thank you for your partnership and trust in the SDBRF."

"Together, we will continue to foster a community where all students feel valued, safe, and supported.”
