Marathon County Sheriff's Department Wearing Special Badges to Commemorate 175th Anniversary

Marathon County was established in 1850, and this year, the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department is proud to commemorate its 175th anniversary.

The staff will be wearing special anniversary badges throughout 2025 to commemorate this milestone. These anniversary badges are a tribute to the badges that Sheriff William Kickbusch wore from 1885 to 1886.

They are a testament to the commitment to the preservation of Marathon County's unique history and the service it provides to the community. Did you know, Marathon County's original boundaries extended from its present southern border to Michigan when it was established in 1850? It has evolved into an exciting and thriving community that the Department is proud to serve today.

As part of this anniversary year, the Department will be publishing a series of posts that will include intriguing stories, rare images, and fascinating details about the history of the Marathon County Sheriff's Office and the County as a whole.

They are excited about showcasing the 150+ years of history that have distinguished Marathon County, from the early days of law enforcement to the individuals and events that have influenced the community.
