NICON TOO, LISTEMAN FOUNDATION HELP BRING IN NEW BUSINESS
Friday, August 29th, 2008 -- 10:27 AM
Ben Urlaub of the Listeman Foundation was on hand Thursday as Neillsville Mayor Diane Murphy handed an incentive check to Steve Donovan of Fabricating Specialists.$150,000 of the $245,000 came from the Foundation, which has a special interest in projects that help the area economy.
"We have a five-member board. We meet three to four times a year. We go over (each request) to make sure it's a good, worthwhile project. We try to help the ones that need the help, especially economic development," he says, "We figure that's going to come back double-fold. We're really strong in economic development right now."
Another key player has been Don Quicker.
He spearheaded a group of local investors calling themselves NICON TOO.
Their role has been to find the funding to buy the Leeson South building and work with Fabricating Specialists to hammer out a lease agreement.
"We have one building, but Leeson wanted to sell the building, but retain 40-percent of it yet, while they continue production," Quicker says, "The balance of the building, which is about 28,000 square-feet, is what Fabricating Specialists is going to lease right now. They will grow into the entire building."
NICON Too will officially take ownership of the building today (Friday). They purchased it from Regal Beloit for just over $1-million.
While nothing is set in stone, Quicker is hopeful the company will eventually buy they facility.
