Governor Evers Appoints New Wood County Branch I Judge

Thursday, January 16th, 2025 -- 10:01 AM

(Karen Madden, Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune) Gov. Tony Evers announced Wednesday the appointment of a central Wisconsin attorney as the new Wood County Branch I Circuit Court judge.

According to Karen Madden with the Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune, Gregory Jerabek will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Greg Potter at the end of November. The current term ends on July 31.

"Greg Jerabek's legal experience and extensive involvement in the local community and area will be important assets in his work on the bench serving the people of Wood County," Evers said in the news release announcing the appointment.

Jerabek announced in December he was running for the Branch I judge's position in the April 1 spring election. As of the Jan. 7 filing deadline, Jerabek was the only candidate who had submitted the nomination paperwork to the Wisconsin Elections Commission to appear on the ballot.

Jerabek has been an attorney at Nash Law Group in Wisconsin Rapids since 2005. He has a general practice, which has given him broad experience in numerous areas of law.

His practice has included extensive trial experience with both civil and criminal cases, according to the news release. He also serves as counsel for the South Wood County Airport Commission.

Jerabek graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 2001 and Hamline University School of Law in 2004. He began his legal career in Wood County.

He worked in private practice, covering a wide range of areas including criminal defense, municipal prosecution, personal injury, probate, family law, juvenile justice and all types of general litigation.

“I am deeply honored and grateful to accept this appointment to the Wood County Circuit Court – Branch 1,” Jerabek said in the news release. “It has been my privilege to serve the people of Wood County for the last 20 years, and I look forward to continuing that service."

"As a judge, I will serve with great enthusiasm, diligence, and above all, with the highest ethical standards.” Potter was first appointed to the bench in 2001 and won reelection four times.
