MMC SHOWS OFF NEW E.R.

Thursday, August 28th, 2008 -- 12:19 PM

It's one room most people hope they never have to see: the emergency room.

But, at least Memorial Medical Center's ER is now updated.
MMC had a ribbon-cutting and offered tours yesterday.

"We've standardized everything now," explains Dr. James Stanga, "For instances, there are oxygen outlets in every room and they're universal throughout the hospital, there's suction, there's examination equipment and there are other things we need that are right next to the patient."

"This translates into not having to run and find things."

Another improvement is a remodeled room near the waiting area that will offer privacy for family and workers.

"This is what we call the EMS room," Stanga says, "This is a small room that the EMS personnel can come in, they can drop off their run-sheets, they can recuperate. It's a place they can be so they don't feel they're getting in the way of patient care or tripping over themselves in the Emergency Room."

Staff have planned the remodeling project for about a year, Stanga says.
