The Marshfield Common Council approved a referendum question for funding in support of hiring and retaining two firefighter/paramedics be placed on the ballot for the April 1st Spring Election.

The Council approved an amendment making some slight wording changes to the referendum question, but, if approved by voters, it would allow the City to exceed the levy limit to approve two additional firefighters. With the approval, a $100,000 home would see a tax increase of about $14 per year.

The Council did not approve transferring $47,000 from the General Fund Contingency to Fund 205 (economic development) for payment of funds related to cost-sharing for MACCI’s Business Development Director position.

This was brought before the Council because a motion to approve this item failed on a 2-2 vote at the January 7th Finance, Budget & Personnel Committee meeting, and a request to add this item to the January 14th Council agenda was made by two Councilmembers.

The Council also approved authorizing the issuance and sale of up to $7,739,680 Taxable Sewerage System Revenue Bonds, Series 2025, and providing for other details and covenants with respect thereto, and approval of related $10,853,015 financial assistance agreement.

The Council also had the first reading of an ordinance regarding property maintenance, so no action was taken and it will be brought back at the next Council meeting.

The Council also had the first reading of an appointment to the Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Committee and the Library Board. Again, no action was taken and they’ll be brought back at the next Council meeting.

In approving the minutes from the various Committee Meetings the past couple weeks, the Council also approved to adopt the 2025 fee schedule for Communications Department, authorized RFP for design services for renovation of Wildwood Plaza, approved the repeal of several City Policies, and approved the dedication of right-of-way for Lincoln Avenue.

The Council also heard a presentation regarding the Financial Management Plan and an update on strategic planning.
