LOCAL DEMOCRATS EXCITED ABOUT CONVENTION

Thursday, August 28th, 2008 -- 12:13 PM

Clark County Democrats are motivated by the National Convention.

"The Convention has been very exciting," raves Melanie Franklin of Spencer, co-chair of the Clark County Democratic Party, "It's been a very unifying event for Democrats across the country."

Of course, much has been made of the divide between Hillary Clinton supporters and Barack Obama supporters, but Franklin believes enough has been done this week to bring the two sides together.

"(Hillary) did what she needed to do to bring her supporters back to (Obama)," she notes, "I didn't start out supporting either one of them. I look at both of their campaigns as a bit of an outsider. I think they've done excellent jobs with their campaigns."

While supporters will undoubtedly be motivated by Obama's big speech tonight, Franklin admits those on the fence may be looking for details of how he'll do what he says he'll do.

"I think that's something he needs to start doing. He does get criticized for talking in generalities. It's not that he hasn't made his plans available, but he doesn't tend to expound on them. I think he will tonight," Franklin predicts.

The public is invited to attend a watching party as Obama gives his speech tonight. It will be at Chelsea's Supper Club north of Greenwood. The party starts at 7:30.
