Marshfield/Wood County Races for the April 1st Election

Monday, January 13th, 2025 -- 11:01 AM

Marshfield residents will have some local races to consider for the spring election.

Statewide races include the Wisconsin Supreme Court and State Superintendent of Public Instruction. More local/county based races include the Court of Appeals District 4 Judge and Wood County Branch I Judge.

For the Marshfield Common Council, alderpersons serve two-year terms with half of the Council’s seats up for reelection each year. This year, the even numbered districts are up for reelection

The incumbent candidates running unopposed include District 2’s Derek Wehrman, District 4’s Brian Vasho, and District 8’s Rebecca Spiros. District 10’s incumbent Andrew Reigel is running for reelection, but is being challenged by Debbie Katona.

District 6’s Russ Stauber is not running for reelection. There are two people running for the seat including Jen Delis and Charles Norton. Two of seven seats are up for election for the Marshfield School Board, which serve three-year terms.

There are five candidates running for the two seats, so a primary will be needed. Current member Dale Yakaites is not running for reelection. The candidates include incumbent Cathy Gorst, as well as Dan Griesbach, Coleman Grosbier, Charles Norton, and Dominic Pernsteiner.

Another item of note that may be on the ballot for Marshfield residents is a potential referendum to hire two firefighters for the Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department. The Marshfield Common Council is voting on whether or not to put that referendum question on the ballot at their meeting tomorrow night.

If they pass that referendum as is, an early estimate shows that the owner of a $200,000 property would see about a $25 increase to their annual property tax bill.
