Black River Falls Man Arrested After High Speed Chase

On January 1st, around 4:12pm, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a traffic complaint regarding an erratic driver on US Highway 12 in the Township of Brockway.
As a deputy made contact, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was pursued and further poor driving was observed. The vehicle eventually crashed in a wooded area and the driver was taken into custody.
The driver was treated at a hospital for injuries relating to the crash. The driver was identified as 49-year-old Wayne Withers of Black River Falls. Withers was booked in the Jackson County Jail for operating while intoxicated 6th offense, recklessly endangering safety, and fleeing an officer.
At this time, Withers retains his presumption of innocence until adjudicated otherwise in a court of law.
