Tomah Man in Custody on the Suspicion of Attempted Homicide

(WEAU, WEAU Staff) A Tomah man is in custody on the suspicion of attempted homicide, according to WEAU staff.

According to Tomah police, on Dec. 31, 2024, at around 1:15 a.m., Tomah Officers were called to an address on Mary Kay Avenue for a welfare check related to a man, 46-year-old Ryan Goad of Tomah, making comments about killing an elderly man.

The caller reported that Ryan Goad had taken his children with him and was going to a home in Tomah on Mary Kay Ave. Tomah Police say officers arrived on scene and found the victim, an 80-year-old Tomah, Wis. man, who suffered a gunshot wound to the head and shoulder.

The victim said Ryan Goad had shot him with a handgun and fled the scene. According to Tomah police, authorities rendered care to the victim. The victim was taken to Tomah Health Emergency Department and then to Gundersen Hospital in La Crosse, Wis. Tomah police add that the victim is in critical condition.

At around 2:45 a.m., Tomah officers were informed the children were found at an address in Juneau County and were safe, Tomah police say. Authorities received information to believe Ryan Goad was in the area of Madison, Wis.

At around 7:00 a.m., the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office said they had found Ryan Goad, and he was taken into custody on the suspicion of attempted 1st degree intentional homicide among other suspected charges.

Tomah officers expect to escort Ryan Goad from Sauk County to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. The incident is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Tomah detectives by calling 608-374-7400.
