(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Wisconsin Rapids man was given a withheld sentence for one count of aggravated battery for an incident in Plover in 2023.
According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Luis Rodriguez-Moreno will spend three years on probation. Terms include a full no-contact order with the victim and court costs.
Charges stem from an incident outside a Plover home in which the victim was run over by a vehicle while taking a heated phone call. The victim was then beaten before they were hospitalized, showing injuries to their leg and face.
The 31-year-old had also been facing a count of attempted homicide, which could have landed him in prison for life. That charge was dismissed outright, meaning it could not be considered, as part of a plea deal.
Rodrigues-Moreno reportedly admitted that he beat the victim, but has denied running into them with a vehicle. He will also have to pay court costs and submit a DNA sample as part of his sentence.
