Busy Holiday Travel Season Expected

(WBAY) The holiday travel season ahead of Christmas and New Year’s is expected to get underway in about a week from now.
According to WBAY, AAA is expecting that period to be among the busiest ever, possibly shattering records. Their survey shows nearly 2.5 million Wisconsinites will travel 50 miles or more, which is 75,000 more than last year’s record high season.
With that many drivers on the road, officials are asking people to be safe and not to drive if they’re tired, follow posted speed limits, and as always this time of the year, be prepared for the possibility of a winter storm.
“The big thing when you’re dealing with inclement weather or slick roads is to just slow down. Reducing your speed and increasing the following distance between you and vehicles ahead of you, so that way you give yourself enough time to react,” says Nick Jarmusz, the director of public affairs for AAA.
AAA says if you’re looking to avoid the rush, the best time to drive is Christmas Eve night, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
