(Lindsay Alowairdi, WEAU) -The Eau Claire Police Department held a news conference Tuesday morning regarding the fatal stabbing at the Do-Dodge-Inn in Eau Claire Saturday night.
According to Lindsay Alowairdi with WEAU, Chief Matt Rokus identified the man killed as Alex Graff, 31, of Medford. Chief Rokus says he was in town visiting a friend.
According to video surveillance and witness statements, Graff was playing pool when the suspect, Anthony Jackson, 44, who is listed as being homeless, began stabbing Graff. The Chief says the attack was unprovoked, but that Jackson had been acting strange prior to the stabbing.
“Anthony Jackson was in the bar acting in an atypical manner. He was talking loudly and drawing attention to himself from numerous bar patrons,” Rokus said, “Jackson approached Graff without any physical argument.”
Graff was stabbed several times including in the heart, face, and back. He ran from the bar and collapsed outside. Chief Rokus says Jackson also tried to stab Graff’s friend, but the friend was able to fight him off with a pool cue.
Several people ran from the bar when the attack happened. Graff was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries. Jackson was arrested at the scene.
An initial court appearance was held for Jackson at 11 am Tuesday where he was charged with 1st degree intentional homicide, attempted 1st degree intentional homicide, and two counts of repeated felony bail jumping.
His bond was set at $2M cash. A criminal complaint was also filed with these charges.
