Stanley Police Department Warns of Scam Targeting the Area
Wednesday, December 18th, 2024 -- 12:01 PM
The Stanley Police Department is warning about a variety of scams that have targeted both businesses and individuals in the area.
The Department wants to remind and urge everyone that scams come in a variety of different forms and if something does not seem right, it likely isn’t. The IRS, police departments, and jails for example are never going to contact you via telephone and demand payment for unpaid taxes, a warrant, or a family member that needs money to post bail, etc.
Oftentimes the scammer will require payment be made in the form of Bitcoin/cryptocurrency, girt cards, or wire transfers. These methods of payment can be extremely difficult to trace and reverse and that is why they are often utilized.
Never give out your personal or financial information to an unknown or previously unverified source. Once this information is shared with a scammer, personal finances and identification information can be compromised almost instantly.
If you are ever faced with a situation where you are unsure, especially if someone is requesting a payment or personal identifying information, please reach out to a trusted source for direction and guidance.
Anyone that might be legitimately contacting you for a valid reason will be understanding of this while you verify the source and request.
