Neillsville School Board Approves Wrestling Co-ops, Donations, and More

The Neillsville School Board heard some presentations to start their meeting on Monday.

Elementary Student Councilmembers and Advisor Chelsea Opelt gave a presentation on council projects. HS/MS Spanish Teacher Jodi Stokdyk shared her presentation from the state foreign language conference.

Bailey Merrill from Wendel Companies, and Building and Grounds Director Mark Spencer, presented a building projects update. The Board also approved the WIAA boys’ wrestling co-op and approved the WIAA girls’ wrestling co-op.

The Board also approved the 2025 membership in the Neillsville Improvement Corporation, approved the donation of school supplies to the elementary from Spring Schermer, and approved the donation of weightlifting equipment from the Neillsville Youth Football Association.

In employment matters, the Board approved the resignation of Christina Mazzuca from her teaching assistant position. They approved the retirement of Sandy Schmidt from her custodial position.

The Board approved the revised Letters of Appointment for Martha Bayles and Jason Kurth. The Board also approved the Memorandum of Understanding for Jill Neville and approved the revised 2024-2025 teacher contract for Ryan Selvik.

The Board also approved the hiring of Kate Hare for the middle school softball coaching position and approved the initial adoption of Policy Section 2000.

The Board also heard the Administrators’ Reports. Elementary Principal Marcy Kunze reported on:

  • Instruction;
  • Field trips;
  • And winter concerts.

Middle School Principal Jesse Bernhagen reported on:

  • Attendance;
  • Monthly character trait;
  • Academics;
  • Climate/culture;
  • School events;

  • And winter sports updates.

High School Principal Jennifer Aspenson reported on:

  • Enrollment;
  • Academics;
  • Holiday volunteering;
  • And student activities.

District Administrator John Gaier reported on:

  • Schuster Park decorating;
  • Completion of the School Mental Health Profile and School Mental Health Quality Assessment;
  • CWETN Administrator Meeting Minutes;
  • Wisconsin Investment Series Cooperative Term Series update;
  • New scholarship opportunity;
  • An article regarding Wisconsin underfunded schools;
  • Potential Wisconsin school district closing;
  • And WASDA’s mission and belief statements.
