Marshfield Common Council Approved a Resolution Changing the Calculation Method for Public Fire Protection Charge

The Marshfield Common Council approved a resolution changing the calculation method for public fire protection charge.
With this change, instead of using a structure's square footage, the calculation would be based on water infrastructure entering the structure. The Council also approved a budget resolution, which saw various end of year budget amendments, something that’s done every year.
The Council also heard an update on the progress of the City’s spring referendum for hiring 2 additional firefighter/paramedics. After a long discussion, the Council approved a resolution regarding funds being provided to MACCI toward the Business Development Director position, once this position has been filled.
The Council also had the second reading, and approval, of an ordinance regarding pet licensing. The City did this to update fees and get them onto an annual schedule.
The Council also had the second reading, and approval, of an ordinance regarding school buses and school crossing guards. This was requested by the police chief and it will make the City’s code consistent with state statute regarding school buses, where they stop, and where they use their signals.
The Council also voted down the appointment of Brandon Taylor to the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Committee, to fill an unexpired term ending in April 2026. When approving the minutes of the various committee meetings from the past couple of weeks.
The Council also approved authorizing soliciting bids for northeast pumping station rehabilitation, authorizing soliciting bids for Braem Park pickleball courts lights project, and authorizing soliciting bids for Braem Park softball field construction project.
They also approved a resolution regarding continuing appropriations, write off uncollectible personal property taxes, approve a 3-month extension of agreement with SEH, Inc. for planning services through March 31st of next year, and approved a 3-month extension of agreement with Cedar Corporation for economic development services through March 31st of next year.
The Council approved a conditional use permit for West 6th St. The Council also heard input related to the 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) update, heard an update on the Communications Department Strategic Plan for 2025-2027, and discussed plans for Council strategic planning sessions starting in January.
During staff updates, an item regarding the Marshfield Clinic was pulled from the agenda. During the City Administrator’s comments, he mentioned items with Weinbrenner, City Hall’s holiday hours, and thanked everyone for all their efforts in 2024.
Finally, during the Mayor’s Comments, she wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
