The Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department responded to a house fire Tuesday afternoon.
According to a report from the Department, they initially responded with 11 personnel, around 12:57pm, to a report of a house fire at 708 N. Maple Ave., with the fire located in the basement. Upon arrival heavy black smoke was showing from all sides of the house.
Firefighters made entry and located the fire in the basement, which they quickly extinguished. Other firefighters made entry to search for any trapped people, but there were none.
Working smoke alarms notified the occupants of the fire early, which allowed them to escape safely and call 911. There were no injuries. The fire was contained to the basement and all smoke was ventilated from the structure.
The occupant was located at the neighbor’s house and stated that everyone who lives in the house is accounted for and safe. American Red Cross is assisting the family.
A total of 16 fire personnel responded from MFRD throughout the duration of the incident. MFRD was on scene for 1.25 hours. The origin and cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Due to the early activation of MFRD the fire damage was significantly reduced. However, there was moderate fire, smoke, and water damage located in the basement. Moderate smoke damage was found throughout the 1st floor.
