Greenwood Woman Reaches Deferred Agreement for Road Rage Incident in Chippewa County

Monday, December 16th, 2024 -- 3:01 PM

A Greenwood woman arrested in Lake Hallie after a road rage incident reached a deferred agreement in Chippewa County Court last week.

According to the Lake Hallie Police Department, on Tuesday, May 28th of this year, around 5:41pm, they were called to investigate a rollover crash on Highway 53 North near Lake Hallie.

After an investigation, authorities determined it was a road rage incident. According to the Department, witnesses stated Ashley Smrecek of Greenwood and another male driver exchanged “hand gestures” to one another on the road.

They then claim that Smrecek intentionally rammed into the other vehicle. Her vehicle then rolled and went into the ditch. No one was hurt in the incident and drugs and alcohol were not involved.

During her court appearance last week, she entered a deferred agreement that saw her enter a no contest plea to a charge of 2nd-degree recklessly endangering safety.

This agreement will see that she has to pay restitution for the incident and the agreement will be in place for 12 months.
