Former Assumption High School Coach Enters Plea for Taking Naked Images of Students

Friday, December 13th, 2024 -- 12:00 PM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A former Assumption High School coach accused of taking naked images of students has pled guilty to five of the ten counts against him as part of a plea deal announced earlier today.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Seth Milkey entered the plea to five counts of capturing an intimate representation. The remaining five counts will be dismissed but read into the record, meaning they can be considered at sentencing.

The deal means the 34-year-old will face up to 17.5 years in prison at sentencing on February 10th. He will also face up to $50,000 in fines. Family members discovered the images on a laptop back in April.

When they confronted Milkey, he became defensive and allegedly threatened to kill himself. Officers arrived at his home for a welfare check and discovered the images of at least 10 students on the laptop. They were not sexual in nature but some did show nudity.

The Catholic Diocese of La Crosse released a statement shortly after the charges came to light, saying they are cooperating with the investigation. They added that Milkey passed all of their background checks “before and during” his time as a coach with the school.

The statement added that having students visit him at his home for counseling was a “clear and troubling violation of diocesan and school policy.” Milkey left his position at Assumption in 2021 to pursue other opportunities.
