Slims Chickens No Longer Coming to Marshfield at this Time

(Jamie Rokus, Marshfield News-Herald) It's been more than two years since city officials first considered a proposal for a Slim Chickens restaurant along North Central Avenue and after delays and issues with a developer, a company spokesperson told the Marshfield News-Herald Wednesday the project is not going to happen, according to Jamie Rokus with the Marshfield News-Herald.
"It doesn't mean we are never coming to Marshfield, just not on that property," the spokesperson said. "We hope to be all over Wisconsin some day." GMX Real Estate Group proposed building a Slim Chickens with a drive-thru, outdoor patio and parking in September 2022 on North Central Avenue and North Peach Street, between Starbucks at 1707 N. Central Ave. and the Bread & Butter Shop convenience store at 1727 N. Central Ave.
Franchise owners Chad Sternitzky, of Stevens Point, and Nick Sternitzky, of Marshfield, told the News-Herald in May 2023 they had planned to break ground on the new restaurant in June of that year, with construction expected to last about six months.
They anticipated a late 2023 or early 2024 opening date. But by the end of last year, company officials said issues with a developer had caused a delay in construction of the new fast-food restaurant and those plans had been put on hold.
"Sadly, Slim Chickens ultimately decided not to build in Marshfield at this time," Marshfield Administrator Steve Barg told the News-Herald earlier this month.
According to its website, Slim Chickens has over 200 restaurants and more in development. Marshfield would have been the company’s second Wisconsin location.
A Slim Chickens restaurant opened in January 2023 in Appleton. The restaurant features classics such as chicken tenders, chicken wings, sandwiches, salads, chicken and waffles and more.
