Items of Note From Tomorrow’s Marshfield Common Council Meeting
Monday, December 9th, 2024 -- 11:01 AM

The Marshfield Common Council will meet for one of their regular monthly meetings tomorrow, Tuesday, December 10th, at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
Some items of note on the agenda include the possible approval of the 2025 City fee schedule. The changes requested are based on the rising cost of processing permits/licenses/etc. The proposed changes include pet licensing fees, fire services, and licensing through the Clerk's Office.
Also, changes to the pay scale for seasonal employees are on the table to be increased. The main seasonal positions are crossing guards, zoo attendants, parks, recreation and forestry operations, and a wastewater intern.
Some mayoral appointments to committees will also be on the agenda including the first reading to approve the appointment of Brandon Taylor to Parks, Recreation & Forestry. And the second reading is to approve the appointment of Jennifer Koran to the Business Improvement District.
The City also provided a reminder on property taxes. Property taxes are calculated based on the value of the property. This includes both the land and the buildings on it.
The single tax rate for a property combines all local rates applied from the city, school district, county, and college. The city does not set the county, school district, and college tax rates. This aggregate rate is referred to as the mill levy.
Revenue from other sources also helps fund a portion of the general fund. Other revenue sources include state aid, special assessments, grants, program fees, fees for services, permit/license fees, other financing sources, and contracts.
