Wausau Man Facing Attempted Homicide Charges Scheduled for Trial in June

Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024 -- 1:01 PM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A man charged with attempted homicide after a shooting incident in Wausau has been scheduled for trial next June.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Richard Mason was in court on Monday where a judge scheduled a four-day trial beginning June 24th and concluding the 27th.

He faces one count of attempted intentional homicide and a misdemeanor charge for carrying a concealed weapon. The 31-year-old is accused of shooting another man once in the abdomen during an argument at a home on Emter Street in 2022.

The victim survived the shooting and was able to go to a nearby home for help. Mason left the scene and was arrested without incident when officers found his vehicle on Lake View Drive.

Witnesses say Mason stood over the victim executioner style and shouted “you ruined my life” before he fled the scene. Before the four-day trial, Mason will have a bond modification hearing on December 10th.

He’s currently being held in the Marathon County jail on a $250,000 cash bond. A motion hearing is scheduled for mid-April. A jury status hearing is scheduled for May 9th.

If found guilty Mason faces a mandatory life sentence with only the possibility of parole up for discussion. He has pled not guilty to all charges.
