(Erik Pfantz, Marshfield News Herald) Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction released statutorily required school and district accountability report cards for the 2023-24 school year Nov. 19.

According to Erik Pfantz with the Marshfield News Herald, the accountability reports show data on four priority areas: achievement, growth, target group outcomes and on-track to graduation.

The reports account for prior-year data and are weighted based on a district’s number of economically disadvantaged students in accordance with the state statute’s requirements.

The districts receive a score between zero and 100 based on how they meet each priority area. The score is then broken into five categories: “fails to meet expectations,” “meets few expectations,” “meets expectations,” “exceeds expectations” and “significantly exceeds expectations.”

The DPI reformed standardized testing scores earlier this year, leading to an implementation of a one-year scale adjustment to the “achievement” scores to better allow comparing scores between years.

The district continued to “meet expectations” by scoring 66.5 in 2023-24, a slight improvement over its all-time low score (66) in 2022-23. The district previously recorded scores that placed it in the “exceeds expectations” category in seven out of 10 report cards since the 2012-13 school year.

The district scored its highest score, 81.7, in 2015-16. Marshfield schools outpaced the statewide scores on almost every metric. In achievement, Marshfield scored a 71 in ELA compared to the state’s 58.3 and Marshfield scored 63.3 in math compared to the state’s 57.6.

In on track to graduation, Marshfield held solid margins in chronic absenteeism (91 to 80.2), graduation (93.7 to 92), third-grade English Language Arts (66.8 to 57) and eighth-grade math (59.2 to 54.5).

The district’s report weighs growth slightly more than the other priority areas and the district fell short of statewide results in that category. The district scored 60.3 for growth in both math and ELA, which compares to a statewide score of 66 in both categories. Of the district’s seven buildings that received ratings, three exceeded expectations and four met expectations.

School District of Auburndale scored 61.4, Stratford School District scored 77.5, Spencer Public Schools scored 66.7, Pittsville School District scored 74.1, School District of Loyal scored 62, and the Granton Area School District scored 59.6.
