Wausau Man Sentenced for Homicide by Delivery of Drugs

Wednesday, November 27th, 2024 -- 11:01 AM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Wausau man convicted of homicide by delivering drugs was sentenced on Tuesday.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Andrew Washburn will serve 15 years in a state prison after he was found guilty of two felony counts including reckless homicide and manufacturing or delivering fentanyl.

The decision is part of a plea deal with the state that saw several other counts dismissed but read into the record.  He had been facing up to 55 years in prison on those counts.

Charges stem from the overdose death of an unidentified woman in a Wausau apartment back in March 2023. Her death was  ruled a “mixed drug toxicity overdose.”

Washburn later told police that he had purchased the drugs from another man, who told him to take them with caution because he had “been putting fentanyl in everything.”

Investigators say Washburn and the woman had been in a relationship. Additional conditions of Washburn’s sentence include 15 years of extended supervision and treatment or counseling.

He must also write a letter of apology to the victim’s family. The deal covers multiple Marathon County cases. The 35-year-old was given credit for just over a year already served in jail.
