Wisconsin October Egg Production Slightly Lower Compared to Last Year

(Blake Jackson, Wisconsin Ag Connection) Wisconsin’s egg production for October 2024 reached 209 million eggs, marking a slight decrease compared to October of the previous year.

According to Blake Jackson with the Wisconsin Ag Connection, the data comes from the latest Chickens and Eggs report published by the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.

The report highlights that the average number of egg-laying hens on hand during the month was 7.80 million. This represents a 2% reduction in the layer population compared to October 2023.

Despite the drop in the number of layers, productivity per hen showed a modest improvement. Eggs produced per 100 layers stood at 2,680 for October 2024, reflecting a 1% increase compared to the same period last year.

This rise in efficiency indicates that the remaining layers are producing slightly more eggs on average than they were a year ago. The figures underline the ongoing adjustments within Wisconsin's poultry sector, balancing flock size and productivity.

While overall production has dipped slightly, the increase in per-layer output demonstrates the industry's focus on efficiency. Wisconsin remains a key player in the U.S. egg industry, and these figures provide valuable insight into its performance and trends for the year.
