Sparta Man Sentenced for Possession After High Speed Chase in Jackson County

Monday, November 25th, 2024 -- 2:01 PM

A Sparta man arrested after a vehicle pursuit in Jackson County was sentenced for the incident in Jackson County Court.

According to a press release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, back on Jan. 16, around 8:09 a.m., the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Sechlerville Road and Highway 95 in the Town of Hixton for a vehicle equipment violation.

However, the driver of the vehicle fled from law enforcement and a pursuit began. The pursuit lasted about eight miles and ended when the driver, identified as Vong Vang of Sparta, finally pulled over.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department stated Vang had a substance, later tested positive as meth, on his sweatshirt and sweatpants. It seemed he had consumed a large amount of the meth.

After Vang was arrested, he was taken to the hospital for a medical observation period. He was cleared and taken to the Jackson County Jail. More meth was discovered in the front and rear of his vehicle. Vang had allegedly thrown some of the meth out the window.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, the shard of meth collected from inside the vehicle totaled 5.55 ounces and has a street value of between $2,500-$4,000.

Vang was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, possession with intent - amphetamine/methamphetamine. Another charge was dismissed and read in. He was sentenced to seven years in prison and five years of extended supervision.
