Neillsville School Board Approves Academic and Career Plan, Budget Modifications, and More

The Neillsville School Board approved the Academic and Career Plan at their meeting on Monday.
The Board also approved the budget modifications for the 2024-2025 school year. Jenny Polacek and Bailey Merrill from Wendel Companies, and Building and Grounds Director Mark Spencer, presented a building projects update.
The Board also approved three early graduation requests. The Board also approved a couple donations including the monetary donation from Kristin Albrecht and the donation of a portable spray booth from Jessie Barrett.
In employment matters, the Board approved the letter of resignation from Brianna Roehl from her middle school softball coaching position. The Board approved the hiring of Martha Bayles for the teaching assistant position. The Board approved the modified Letter of Appointment for Esmeralda Recendez.
The Board also approved the retention bonuses for custodial and maintenance staff in the amount of $500 for full-time and $250 for part-time, as well as, the retention bonuses for food service staff in the amount of $500 for full-time and $250 for part-time. The Board also approved the initial adoption of a couple policies.
The Board also heard the Administrators’ Reports. Elementary Principal Marcy Kunze’s report was shared on:

- Department of Corrections’ Annual Veterans Recognition Ceremony;
- And upcoming events.
Middle School Principal Jesse Bernhagen reported on:
- Attendance;

- Trivia contest;
- SEL lessons;
- Choir concert;
- Veterans Day program;
- Red Ribbon Week;
- Holiday stories for WCCN;
- Boys basketball season;
- And upcoming 6th grade field trip.
High School Principal Jennifer Aspenson reported on:
- Enrollment;
- Incorporating STEM into curriculum;
- Wisconsin Association for Language Teachers conference;
- Data and intervention team;
- And student activities.
Finally, District Administrator John Gaier reported on:
- A thank you card;
- Veterans Day Ceremony;
- DPI modifies student performance levels;
- Electrical maintenance course from CVTC;
- 2023-24 actual vs estimated tax collections;
- Funding for the DPI literacy coach program;
- Youth Apprenticeship grant funding update;
- An article on Wisconsin school referendums;
- And a Journal Sentinel opinion piece on school funding.
