A former Clark County Sheriff’s sergeant arrested on suspicion of sexual exploitation of a child appeared in Taylor County Court on Monday.
According to a press release from the Taylor County Sheriff’s Department, on June 12th, authorities searched a home in the Village of Spencer in connection with an Internet Crimes Against Children investigation.
During the search, the suspect was identified as Jeremy Chapman, a former sergeant with the Clark County Sheriff’s Department. According to court documents, the victim, a student in high school, told authorities she was blackmailed into sending nude pictures to an unknown person.
That individual also tried to get her to go to a locker room where he claimed to have raped another student there. Chapman was taken into custody and booked into the Taylor County Jail.
After a bond hearing, the suspect was released on a $2,500 cash bond along with a $10,000 signature bond. During his court appearance on Monday, he waived his preliminary hearing and entered a not guilty plea to the charges against him.
He’s facing charges of child sexual exploitation, child enticement, threats to communicate derogatory info, and solicit intimate representation from a minor. He’s scheduled to be back in court in January.
The Taylor and Marathon County Sheriff’s Offices and the Wisconsin Department of Justice-Division of Criminal Investigation are handling the investigation. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is cooperating.
