Man Arrested for Starting Athens House Fire With Deputies Inside

(Marshfield News Herald) Marathon County sheriff's deputies arrested a 35-year-old man Sunday morning on suspicion of arson, accusing him of starting a home on fire with deputies inside.
According to the Marshfield News Herald, Sheriff's deputies, along with the Athens and Hamburg fire departments, responded about 11:30 a.m. Sunday to a report of a house on fire in the 200 block of Mueller Street, Athens, according to the Marathon County Sheriff's Office.
When firefighters arrived, there was no fire, but deputies saw a man breaking windows on the second floor of the home, according to the Sheriff's Office. The man barricaded himself on the second floor and started a fire, according to the Sheriff's Office.
After a few minutes of trying to get to the man, witnesses said he jumped from a second story window to the ground, according to the Sheriff's Office. The fire destroyed the home.
Deputies arrested the man on suspicion of arson and recklessly endangering safety. As of Monday afternoon, prosecutors had not filed any criminal charges against him.
