Voters in Central Wisconsin approved most school referendums that were on Tuesday’s ballot.
The Colby School District passed both referendum questions pretty easily. Question 1 seeks $17,770,000 to fund a comprehensive school facility improvement project.
It would provide maintenance and improvements to many areas of the school campus that have needed attention for a while. Question two seeks 7.7 million dollars to fund an improvement project at the elementary school.
The largest changes include transitioning 4th grade from the middle school to the elementary school to provide age appropriate learning spaces. It would also include relocating 8th grade from the high school to the middle school.
Marshfield School District’s $71 million referendum passed. Marshfield had one of the largest monetary referendums, seeking more than $70 million for improvements and to avoid cost cutting. The referendum passed by a little more than 200 votes with 7,820-7,617.
The Medford referendum passed. The race was decided by just over 350 votes in Taylor County, with 3,893 voting yes while 3,538 voted no. The Medford Area Public School District was asking for $22.665 million to bring improvements to its schools.
The Owen-Withee referendum passed. The District asked residents within the Owen-Withee School District to approve exceeding state-set revenue caps by $500,000 per year for 3 years beginning this school year. It passed with 949 voting yes and 639 voting no.
The Pittsville School District $6 million referendum passed. Tallying $6 million dollars over the course of four years, the operational referendum is the district's first since 2008.
The Tomah School District’s referendum failed with 6,490 voting no and 3,959 voting yes. The project would have allowed the district to invest up to $177,335,000 to construct a new High School, renovations at the existing high school to convert it to a Middle School, renovations at the existing middle school to convert it to an Elementary School, renovations at La Grange Elementary School for early childhood education and Montessori classrooms, and district-wide capital improvement projects.
