Trial Scheduled for Wausau Man Facing Child Enticement Charges

Thursday, October 31st, 2024 -- 10:01 AM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Wausau man accused of trying to lure someone who he thought was a teenage girl for drugs and sex will go to trial next spring.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Jason Olerich faces charges for using a computer to facilitate a sex crime and child enticement after officers say he made plans to meet with an undercover officer for a night of drugs and sex.

On Tuesday a judge scheduled a two-day trial for May 27th and 28th, with a final pre-trial conference in mid-February and a jury status hearing one week before the trial.

The 42-year-old was chatting with an undercover officer posing as a 15-year-old girl. During the conversations, Olerich made arrangements to pick the “girl” up and supply her with drugs in exchange for sex.

Despite several reminders that the officer was acting as a 15-year-old girl, Olerich insisted on moving forward with the plans. Officers then arrested him as he was waiting to pick her up.

It’s the latest attempt at trial in the case, which dates back to the spring of 2021. Olerich was scheduled for trial in on at least three different occasions between July 2022 and last summer only to be canceled or pushed back for various reasons.

Olerich is currently on extended supervision after pleading guilty to drug-related charges stemming from a separate case. He remains free on a $10,000 signature bond after posting the first $2,500 in cash.
