(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A former math teacher at John Muir Middle School has reached a plea deal with the state after officers found a small amount of cocaine in his vehicle as it was parked on school grounds.
According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Nevan Larson entered a guilty plea to one count of possession of cocaine near a school and was immediately handed a withheld sentence for one year of probation, meaning he will not serve jail or prison time if he completes the terms of his probation.
Those include 100 hours of community service, paying court costs, and submitting a DNA sample. The 24-year-old must also maintain full-time employment or schooling.
Charges stem from a tip received by the School Resource Officer at John Muir Middle School regarding Larson’s vehicle, leading to a preliminary search.
Officers eventually called in a K9 officer who directed them to a substance that later tested positive for cocaine. Larson was arrested shortly after the search and spent the night in the Marathon County Jail before making an initial court appearance.
The incident occurred in early May.
