Study Unpacks the Toll of Gun Violence in Wisconsin

(Bob Hague, Wisconsin Radio Network) A new study unpacks the toll of gun violence in Wisconsin.
According to Bob Hague with the Wisconsin Radio Network, Firearms killed 830 Wisconsin residents in 2022. Nick Matuszewski, director of policy and programs at WAVE Educational Fund, said the numbers broke down to 529 suicides from firearms, as compared to 277 homicides.
The Gun Death in Wisconsin report highlights the toll of firearms violence in the Black community. Black residents only make up about 6.3% of the population, but accounted for 75.5% of the firearm homicides.
Since 2020, firearms deaths have outpaced motor vehicle deaths in Wisconsin.
