The Marshfield Common Council approved several insurance contracts for 2025 at their meeting on Monday.

The Council approved the health insurance contracts with Security Health Plan for benefit-eligible employees for calendar year 2025, approved dental insurance contracts with Delta Dental for calendar year 2025, approved vision insurance contracts with National Vision Administration for calendar year 2025, and approved dependent care flexible spending account contract with Employee Benefits Corporation for calendar year 2025.

The Council also heard from the only individual who expressed interest in the vacant District 5 alderperson position. Scott Koran introduced himself to the Council, but no action was taken and it will be brought back before the Council for their November 12th meeting.

The Council did approve the appointment of Rita Meier to the Plan Commission to fill an unexpired term ending in April 2026. When approving the minutes from various committee meetings for the past couple weeks, the Council also approved the purchase of a sanitary sewer camera.

During the Mayor’s comments, she mentioned that absentee voting for the City of Marshfield begins today. Check with the City Clerk for dates and times to vote absentee in the City.

The City Administrator commented on the budget meetings for the City. The Council did hold a budget hearing before the regular Common Council meeting on Monday.

After some discussion on the budget provided by the City Administrator, the Council did make a motion to accept the budget as presented, but it did not pass as it did not have a majority vote by the alderpersons. The Council will have another budget meeting on October 29th.

The Council also heard a presentation on the 2024 season at Vandehey Waters. The weather was a big factor in their season this year, due to the cool and rainy start to the season. They had 74 days budgeted and were open 68 of the 74 or 80% of scheduled time.

Their revenue did decrease by $20,000; however, daily revenue for 2024 was similar to 2023, it was largely affected by the number of days they were able to be open. They generated $221,000 in revenue for 2024.

The Council also heard a presentation from Visit Marshfield. They discussed their new Youtube series and their mission to attract people to Marshfield with their events. Website and social media visits are also up for organization.
