Neillsville School Board Meets New Staff, Hears Building Update, and More

The Neillsville School Board began their recent meeting by having new staff members introduced to them.

A building project update was also presented by: Jenny Polacek from Wendel Companies, and Building and Grounds Director Mark Spencer. The Board also approved the student club application for The School Store, approved the football co-op with Granton Schools for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years, and approved the request for proposals for an administrator search service as edited.

The Board also approved several donations including school supplies from the Inwood Supper Club, student hygiene kits from the Clark County Child Support Agency, and books from the Clark County HCE Wisconsin Bookworms Project.

They also approved a donation of raffle items from Gross Motors, $83 from Grit Nutrition to the Neillsville softball team, a batting cage net from Kevin and Shelly Schmitz, three pitching target frames from Mayville Engineering, and $50 from Unity Bank to the Homecoming Club for homecoming activities.

In employment matters, the Board approved the hiring of Sasha Degenhardt for a teaching assistant position, Brooke Mavis for a teaching assistant position, Susan Smith for a custodian position, Tasha Gelander for a custodian position, Deb Bray for the middle school teaching position, and Lexi Opelt for the middle school girls’ basketball coaching position.

The Board also approved the bus driver bonus of $500 for full-time and $250 for part-time as presented. The Board also approved the initial adoption of several policies.

The Board also heard the Administrators’ Reports. Elementary Principal Marcy Kunze reported on:

  • Reading instruction;
  • Seal-A-Smile Program;
  • Upcoming events;

Middle School Principal Jesse Bernhagen reported on:

  • SEL and culture building plans;
  • Middle school building upgrade;

High School Principal Jennifer Aspenson reported onL

  • New staff;
  • Enrollment;

  • Student activities updates;
  • And homecoming.

District Administrator John Gaier reported on:

  • The hard work of the custodial staff to prepare the building for the start of school;
  • Picture day;
  • The WASB Region 5 Meeting on October 1 st;
  • Two thank you notes;
  • Upcoming school referenda;
  • And the district annual meeting on October 21st.
