(Bob Hague, Wisconsin Radio Network) Wisconsin’s state funding for public universities is 43rd in the nation.
According to Bob Hague with Wisconsin Radio Network, Governor Tony Evers calls that “nickel and diming” and is proposing an $800 million increase in Universities of Wisconsin System funding as part of his next budget. During a back to school stop at UW Madison on Wednesday, the Democratic governor said he’ll work with the Wisconsin Legislature to pass the funding.
Evers said he thinks there will be more lawmakers in the next legislative session who understand the importance of the UW System to the state’s economy. Evers said the latest enrollment numbers showing a slight overall increase give him optimism about the future of the Universities of Wisconsin.
